Alternative Programs

The Calgary Board of Education has embarked on an exciting path of Program Renewal and Alternative Programs. Alternative programs, a major incentive within CBE, focus on a particular teaching philosophy, subject matter or language/culture.

Programs that focus on language and culture include French Immersion programs, Mandarin Chinese/English bilingual program, German bilingual program and the International Spanish Academy. Programs that focus on a particular teaching philosophy include the Montessori program, Fine Arts/ Creative Arts, as well as a Direct Instruction / Character Education program. The International Baccalaureate programme is well known and is currently being implemented into the Primary and Middle Years programmes in addition to other academic enrichment programs. Dynastars Hockey and Life Skills program, the National Hockey program, the National Synchronized Swimming program and the Alberta Ballet program emphasize a particular subject matter.
