Colorado Governer and Denver Mayor Visit Calgary to Strengthen North American Energy Security

Calgary, Alberta (April 7, 2005) Calgary Economic Development and Denvers new Canadian Consul General, Michael Fine, are part of the team coordinating the 2005 Colorado-Alberta Energy Partnering Mission to Calgary April 11 and April 12. The purpose is to foster partnerships between Colorado and Alberta energy companies and research institutionsas well as heads of provincial, state and city governmentsto improve production and development of untapped energy resources in the Rocky Mountain region, with North American energy security as the ultimate goal.
Mission leaders Colorado Governor Bill Owens and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper will meet Premier Ralph Klein and Mayor Dave Bronconnier, as well as energy producers, investors, service firms and technology research organizations from both Colorado and Alberta. The delegation will also be meeting with Alberta Economic Development Minister Clint Dunford and International and Intergovernmental Relations Minister Ed Stelmach.
Monday, April 11 will feature a tour of the Suncor oil sands operation in Fort McMurray. Oil extracted from this resource is refined at Suncors facility in Commerce City, Colo. On Tuesday, delegates will engage in a symposium discussing opportunities for energy partnering between Colorado and Alberta and investment opportunities in the Alberta energy industry.
