Peak Season
When travelling during peak seasons, it is important that you book your
accommodation early to avoid being disappointed.
* The Calgary Exhibition & Stampede runs for 10 days every July. It begins with the Stampede Parade on the first Friday of the month. Many hotels and motels in Calgary fill up during this time so be sure to book early.
* In the surrounding Rocky Mountain region, peak season starts in May and continues until late September. The region is also very busy during the winter holiday season (late December and early January) and during long weekends in the summer.
Customs and Immigration
In order to enter Canada, you require a valid passport unless you are an
American citizen (in which case you must provide proof of citizenship upon request). Other international visitors should check visa restrictions. Persons under 18 travelling without their parents should have a letter of authorization from a parent or guardian to enter Canada.
Languages
Canada has two official languages, English and French. The dominant language spoken in Calgary is English. Due to the diversity of Calgary's population, there are a number of other languages spoken as well including: French, German, Mandarin and Spanish.
Weather
Alberta is the sunniest province in Canada. Even during the coldest days of winter, Calgarians enjoy blue, sunny skies.
