The following is a message from Daryl S. Fridhandler, Chairman, Calgary Economic Development
I expect we will look back on 2003 as the beginning of a new chapter of economic development in Calgary. As the Chairman of our Board of Directors, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you our role to rejuvenate economic development efforts in our city.
The rejuvenation begins with a new name, “Calgary Economic Development.” This organization will carry out its work by collaborating with and supporting other organizations in the community involved in economic development activities. Our partnership with groups that represent the many strong and well-developed organizations with an interest and expertise in Calgary’s economic development will be of the utmost importance in achieving our goals.
We plan to build on the good work of Promoting Calgary Inc., and inject new energy into current undertakings such as C-Prosperity, the innovative economic cluster initiative. Buttressed by a skilful and dedicated staff, the future hiring of additional staff members and the expertise of a new Board of Directors, I am confident the work of our organization will generate measurable results in a short period of time.
Calgary City Council has appointed the initial Board of Directors of Calgary Economic Development. The expertise of this group will be a great advantage as we build on Calgary’s business strengths. The members of the Board of Directors are:

At the present time we are engaged in a search for a new President to lead this exciting new organization and plan to have the successful candidate in place in early April; - hopefully sooner.
