Chinook Country
The climate in Calgary is one of change and there are four distinct
seasons to enjoy. There can be differences in weather patterns from
one side of the city to the other during any season. The temperature
can range from 30C in the summer to -30C in the winter.
Alberta is blessed with the
greatest number of hours of sunshine per year than any other Canadian
province. During the winter months, Calgary is often blessed with
the arrival of an unexpected Chinook. Raising temperatures often
as much as 20 degrees in one day causing spring like conditions
during the depth of winter.
Seasonal Temperatures
Canada is home to the metric system. Our temperatures are rated
using the Celsius temperature scale. The freezing point is 0C which
is the same as 32F.
Winter, which is generally
from December until the end of February experiences average temperatures
of -11C or 10F.
The renewal of spring in Calgary
can often be felt starting in the beginning of March and continuing
through May with temperatures averaging 9C or 42F.
