Calgary
is a safe, clean community that has consistently been recognized as
one of the most "livable" cities in Canada. Although it has grown rapidly
over the last decade, Calgarians continue to make community safety a priority
for their community.
In
1989, the Mayor's Task Force on Family and Community Violence came up
with over 60 recommendations that were primarily designed to address the
community's growing concern with respect to violence.
A
decade later, City Council supported a Safer City Initiative in the spirit
of community development and safety for the citizens of Calgary.
This
initiative will be key as Calgary continues to place safety high on its
list of priorities in the future.
