Why Now?
There is no better time to begin building
the physical and socioeconomic foundations and making the necessary investments
to prepare the Calgary Region for the economy of the 21st century. In
addition, national and global competition for economic development is
ever increasing. C-Prosperity is designed to move quickly, spending several
months on identifying challenges and moving immediately to a sustained
implementation phase.
The Calgary Region is approaching one
million people, and is among Canadian leaders in population and economic
growth. As the population grows, our community fabric gets ever more intricate.
Our challenges can be met by thinking strategically about a future we
desire for the Calgary region, and acting on that desire. Times are good
now, but strategic action now can put "top spin" on a rolling ball in
a manner that provides sustainable prosperity long into the future.
Promoting Calgary Inc. and the Calgary
Regional Partnership recognize that people largely function economically
and socially in a Calgary Region, transcending jurisdictional boundaries.
Add globalization to the mix and reality for region residents is changing.
C-Prosperity is a collaboration of 13 municipalities and jurisdictions
in the Region who believe that we should respect our individual identity
as communities but that we need to coordinate our planning and action
in strategic areas for the benefit of all residents in the Region. A region
based economic development strategy was recently identified by both Promoting
Calgary Inc. and the Calgary Regional Partnership, and both parties have
agreed to collaborate to do this work together.
C-Prosperity is positioning the Calgary
Region to capitalize on opportunities an increasingly globally competitive
environment is creating. In the end, C-Prosperity must be adopted as a
"way of doing business" by industry, institutional and government leaders
who collaborate to "get things done".
