A thriving arts and cultural scene
The Arts Centre
This unique and advanced Centre for performing arts is home to the
Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra whose music can be heard in the 1,800
seat Centre concert hall. Theatre Calgary, Alberta Theatre Projects
and One Yellow Rabbit theatre troupe also perform here in their own
unique theatre spaces. A great variety of theatrical and musical performances
are held year-round. website
Calgary supports numerous other professional arts organizations - Alberta Ballet,
Calgary Opera, Lunchbox Theatre and about 40 smaller dance and theatre
groups. Touring Broadway shows like Phantom of the Opera and Showboat
frequently find their way to Calgary. The Pengrowth Saddledome and
the Jubilee Auditorium frequently host international entertainers.
Glenbow Museum
The Glenbow is western Canada's largest museum, and offers a colorful and captivating tour of the events and cultures that shaped the west. Pioneer exhibits and tributes to native peoples are combined with new and exciting works by local artisans. Special events and exhibitions are created throughout the year. website
Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre
The Chinese Cultural Centre is patterned after the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, and houses a museum and gallery devoted to an historical overview of Chinese culture.
Rozsa Centre
This world class facility is a privately funded music and international meeting facility, situated on the University of Calgary campus.
Institute of Modern and Contemporary Art (IMCA)
IMCA is planning a state-of-the-art facility in downtown Calgary to exhibit internationally renowned art exhibitions.
