- Calgary
boasts the country's youngest, most highly educated population.
- Calgary
was host to the 1988 Winter Olympics, and we are still
using the facilities from the Olympics, which is unusual
to other Olympic cities. Among these facilities is Spruce
Meadows, which hosts world-renown equestrian events every
year.
-
For ten incredible days each July, Calgary hosts "The
Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth", the Calgary Stampede,
and a celebration of our western heritage, which attracts
visitors from around the world.
- We
have over 300 kilometers (180 miles) of paved walking
and cycling paths that wind through nearly 3,300 hectares
(8,000) acres of natural areas and parkland.
- The
majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains are less than 1 hour's
drive away, which offers world-class skiing, hiking, golfing
and other outdoor pursuits within a protected environment.
- Each
year Calgary plays host to several international festivals
and events, including: the Calgary International Children's
Festival, the Calgary International Folk Festival, Esther
Honen's Calgary International Piano Competition and Festival
